The Big 5 Dubai 2016 ADU Newsletter
Students of the Department of Architecture and Design, College of Engineering participated in Big5 exhibition Dubai 2016. The events, took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre DWTC and on the first three days welcomed over 27,000 attendees.
Dr. Terry mentioned that, “We are proud of our interior design students in achieving great heights and representing Abu Dhabi University in such prestigious exhibitions”. Big5 this year was another inspiring and successful event, we got to participate in, and hopefully we will be back every year as we received a great feedback from the organizers.
The exhibition comes within the framework of a series of events that Abu Dhabi University is keen to organize. This is in cooperation with strategic support partners and the community institutions from various business sectors in the UAE, which are always eager to provide support and assistance to the University throughout the entire academic year. This enabled Abu Dhabi University to provide a unique learning experience for students and members of the faculty and administrative bodies.
Big5, the biggest event for sourcing interiors and design products, and workspace, the region’s only exhibition dedicated to building system, construction & interior finishing materials, offered ADU’s Interior design students an opportunity to exhibit their work and be part of the exhibition. They were given an area of 170 square meters. The exhibition included more than 20 pieces of postmodern & Modern furniture, which has been designed to reflect the different elements of the culture and authentic Emirati heritage, building technology, interior construction & working drawings boards. The importance of participating such an event is that it displays the university talents of students and their creative and innovative thinking. That is because the projects that were presented in the exhibition is the outcome of the advanced courses "Furniture Design, Textiles, Graduation Projects & Design Studios & Technical Courses", which are offered by the undergraduate program in interior design.
Dr. Sadeka Abdel-Shakour mentioned that, “The interior design students in ADU have great talent and potential. Their creative and innovative ideas never ceases to amaze us”. Big5 exhibition gave the participants the opportunity to practice their creative talents in making such furniture pieces, which identify the excellence and the quality of the work of Abu Dhabi University. Also participation in such events gave the students a strong incentive to work hard and exert effort to achieve the best results through which they can show their talents and innovative ideas. That’s because the projects and pieces of furniture that have been presented involved the application of what the students have learned in their third year.
